Description

During the time of Covid-19, humanity was unsure of where this virus was going. Was it a historic epoch ending plague or the new killer cold? It has entered us all into a phase of living life differently for a while. Full of caution and a degree of fear with not knowing what to expect.

During this time I was doing some experimentation with my painting. The background is acrylic house paint (black, grays, and white). Never realizing that acrylic paint dries amazingly fast, all I had on my easel were 2 sheets of 30 x 22 watercolor paper. I worked furiously and with no time to think of what the paint was doing. This was a change from my usual favorite way to paint: start and see what happens and go with it. Less than 2 hours later, I had a great background that looked like there were people in it. And definitely dark.

After it dried, meditating on and studying the results, I decided that it represented the time of Covid-19. I then needed to add color to the work. I chose pink oil paint as a glaze, and only in certain areas to give it more of a widespread solitariness.
