ARTIST STATEMENT
Some Art is Planned: the idea, the medium, techniques used, material needs, and a focus on outcome.
Some Art is Unplanned: you start with a medium, and you are willing to go where it leads. Some is unfocused and streaming. Some is experimental. Some is hope bound. Some is nothing.
But all Art is Cathartic. It is driven by motivations – known or unknown – that are unique to the individual. Vague yes, but that is the nature of the personal, often hidden, part of Art.
This exhibition is the visual trail of one artist’s journey from planned art to art that centered around her need to relieve the pressure valve of trauma, not knowing what that looked like. This is a journey through a traumatic situation. Art was the tool that allowed me to express and expose conscious and unconscious emotion that could not be articulated otherwise. Looking back over this work allowed me to see and reflect without pain.
